I read an article today that really did not surprise me. Did you know that Americans are basically illiterate when it comes to world geography? It’s true! Apparently, we are only interested in ourselves. A recent study showed that, despite the war, 63 percent of Americans aged 18-24 could not find Iraq on a map. Seventy percent didn’t know the whereabouts of Israel or Iran. And ninety percent failed to locate Afghanistan ... on a map of Asia!

Another story today about the experiences of one of our presenters, and the power of school assemblies to impact the lives of children!

I thought some of you might have an interest in learning a little bit about how the whole business of school assemblies and school assembly programs got started.

A little advice today for those seeking new ideas for school assemblies. With all of the standard presentational type school assembly programs available,  I found, when I was scheduling programs for my school, that something out of the ordinary was occasionally a great treat.

Just a quick story about one of our school assembly performers and the power of school assemblies to impact the self esteem of children in a powerful and positive manner.

I was just speaking with another member of our staff here, and I was reminded of an old story from my early days performing my Abraham Lincoln assembly program, and I thought it might be amusing to some.

I hear and I forget

Elementary school may seem a little early for children to be considering a career, but the seeds planted here can grow into deeply rooted passions as they mature. Exposure to different ideas and possibilities may have lasting and very beneficial consequences. So it is that in searching out ideas for school assemblies and school assembly programs it is wise to give some thought to this area, and there are some very fun and interesting programs available.

It often can be difficult to build family involvement in a school community. Getting parents whose own schedules are often frantic and overworked to commit to additional volunteer time at the school is challenging.

And yet this involvement is crucial not only in the the process of educating children, but also in finding staff for volunteer functions. Moreover, it has been shown that strong communities usually center around local schools and are essential in the healthy development of children.
