If you are charged with arranging assembly programs, enrichment programs, cultural arts (or whatever your group calls it) for your school, and you are new or just looking for new ideas, it can be a daunting task. Hopefully, I can offer some advice and suggestions you may find useful.
I am an involved father of two in Michigan. Though my kids have now moved out of elementary school I was the coordinator of programs there for many years. My son is four years older than my daughter. The PTO at our school asked me to take the job of program coordinator when my son was in Kindergarten, and I was not allowed to resign until my daughter reached eighth grade! So I understand that it can seem difficult and that there are many challenges. Thankfully, I had some experience that allowed me some insights into the process, and over time made many mistakes which I would like to help you to avoid.
First, you should know that I have two professions. I am a professional actor with quite a lot of experience in film, television and on stage, both in front of adult and children's audiences. In addition, for the past twenty some years I have had the pleasure of working with Mobile Ed Productions, which we believe to be the largest, and certainly one of the oldest companies in the United States producing educational assembly programs for schools nationwide. Both areas have allowed me to learn a lot about this world, and hopefully my experience can be of assistance to you!
I firmly believe that (other than loving them!) educating our children is the single most important thing that we can do in this world, and that assembly programs play a vital role in our educational system. I had a great time bringing programs to my school, and seeing how those shows touched their imaginations and inspired them to learn. If you have the same responsibility I think you will find it very rewarding! However, in the beginning it can be a daunting prospect.
So, as I find time, I will be posting bits and pieces of information I hope will assist you in bringing the best school assembly programs to your school!
