So I was watching a commercial recently, and they had a Polar Bear walking slowly from somewhere out in the snow.
He came all the way into the suburbs of some city to give a hug to some guy who drives an electric car. It was cute. But I got to thinking... does an electric car really help the environment? Or does the manufacturing of the car create enough pollution
to offset the gains from not burning gas? Or does it make any difference at all? I am no expert so I really don't know the answers to these questions, but I know someone who can give me some really good information on the subject!
Jeff Hoge is a masterful actor who lives in Chicago. He has performed for us for years, as Abraham Lincoln, and as a writer/mime with Young Authors Day. But in addition, Jeff is fascinated by the state of our environment and has made a great study of the subject. He now presents a program for us called Our Changing Climate which is delightful, with animatronic characters, cool graphics, interactive animated video and a world of answers about what exactly is going on with our planet. The really cool part is that, though this subject can generate some controversy, Jeff manages to walk a fine line between known and unknown, proven and speculative, and win over audiences from all sides of the debate. All the while, he is educating everyone in the audience on environmental science, but also doing so in a very entertaining manner!
Since Jeff is resident in Chicago, he is primarily available in northern Illinois and southern Wisconsin, but, as he does sometimes travel for us, schools in Ohio, Indiana, Michigan, Pennsylvania and up and down the East Coast will also have limited access to this fine program through the year, too.
But keep in mind that his dates are limited, so if you are looking for ideas for school assembly programs in the Midwest or on the East Coast, it would be wise to grab one of Jeff's dates before they are gone!
