Your humble (cough, cough) writer has been with this company for more years than he likes to admit, but there is one performer who even has me beat! I started performing my Abraham Lincoln school assembly in January of 1989. To gauge how long ago that was, I always remind myself that while waiting to perform that morning, pacing back and forth in a school faculty lounge, I could look up at the television in the lounge and watch as George Bush took the Oath of Office .... George Bush senior, that is!
Yikes, it's been a long time doing school assembly programs!
But at that time, amongst the other performers already working for Mobile Ed was a chipper young magician by the name of Jon Oliver. Jon was a dapper young mustachioed fellow and a great student of master magician Harry Houdini. Since that time, as performers have come and gone, Jon has remained with us, touring with assemblies for schools every year, doing school assemblies in Michigan, and school assemblies in Ohio, and school assemblies throughout the Midwest, and even all up and down the East Coast. Jon has given thousands and thousands of performances, to hundreds of thousands of children. By now he may very well be performing for the children of the children he first entertained back in ... well whenever it was he first started with us, somewhere between 1979 when the company opened and 1989 when I came on board.
But Jon seldom does his Magic shows anymore. Over the years, from time to time, he has carried almost all the programs offered by Mobile Ed. He is currently one of our school assembly performers for Chemistry! It Really Matters!, The Magic of Science, Physics Is Fun, Animals and the Environment, and Reptiles are Cool. But in previous seasons he has also carried our Skydome Planetarium, The Amazing World of Light and even Young Authors Day! We joke that to learn anymore shows Jon may need to don a dress and undertake They Made a Difference, our program on famous women in history!
But all joking aside, Jon is a really nice guy, a proud veteran of the road wars, a loving father, and he does a really great school assembly program! We are very proud to send him into schools again this year! Carry on Jon!
