Travel is a regular part of the life of a school assembly performer. Professional presenters of school assemblies are regularly “on the road”, and these "road warriors" often rack up huge amounts of miles during the course of a normal school year. One presenter of ours who does not usually travel as often or as far, is our wonderful “Dr Exhaustus” himself, Jeff Hoge. Jeff is resident in Chicago and regularly performs in schools all around northern Illinois and southern Wisconsin, with his own program on the environment, “Our Changing Climate” as well as with our creative writing school assembly program “Young Authors Day”. In addition, during the winter, Jeff handles our Living Lincoln assembly program.
When not engaged in school assembly programs Jeff also lives the life of a Chicago actor, taking part in plays, film, commercials and lots of voice work. The guy has a great voice! As a result, we cannot often get him out of Chicago to visit our other schools across the country.
Recently, however, we were able to coax him onto the road to visit some of our East Coast schools, who absolutely loved his climate change program! He sent back some photos of his trip, including this one taken in performance at Garvin Memorial Elementary in Cumberland, Rhode Island.
While in Rhode island, he also took this great shot of Greenwich Bay.
But he also shared a highlight from a school in Great Falls, Virginia. It was there that, according to Jeff, “for the first time in over a hundred performances a student suggested geothermal power as an alternative energy source BEFORE it was mentioned by Dr Exhaustus” ( the character Jeff plays in Our Changing Climate). Jeff was especially impressed that the information came from a 4th grader. Way to go Great Falls!
While there Jeff was also very taken with Great Falls National Park which he was able to visit while in town.
Jeff’s program is an exciting environmental science show, and hits state standards in many different ways. We are proud of his passion for teaching students about the important environmental issues affecting our planet, and we are very happy to offer this great school assembly!
Schools in Illinois and Wisconsin, of course, have access to his talents throughout most of the year, but schools in other parts of the country can still schedule the program, but the opportunities are very limited. Jeff will be in Texas during February, and I am told there are just a few slots still open. later in the spring he will be available on a very limited basis in Ohio and Indiana.
