Something fun here. With all the flooding in and around the Mississippi of late I guess that dams and levies are on our minds. I just received these pictures from Italy. They show the Diga del Cingino Dam in the north of Italy near Piedmont. Do you see the small spots on the dam.
What do you think those are?
Look a little closer...
Yes, those are animals.
Specifically, they are Alpine Ibex. They are so sure footed that they can negotiate a near vertical drop in order to satisfy their desire to eat the moss on the stones and lick the salt found there. Amazing, aren’t they?
Well animals are a joy and a wonder to many of us. Which is why school assemblies based around living creatures can be such a powerful tool for helping kids learn about natural science. A natural science assembly such as Animals and the Environment does not include any Alpine Ibex, at least not currently, but it will bring in a range of small animals perfectly suited for teaching kids about a variety of issues related to animals, their habitats and also patterns of extinction and what can be done about it.
Scheduling for next year is well under way so this is a great time to call and check availability in your area. I promise you won’t have to jump off any cliffs!
