I have been meaning to write this for a long time, but I kept putting it off...
Hey ... hellooooo ... I am talking to you .... yes, you ... you know who I mean. Uh Huh... you, the one who has not done anything yet for your school for Martin Luther King Day or Black History Month. Uh huh ... that’s right ... YOU.
Well, it is January 3. Martin Luther King’s birthday is days away and Black History Month is right behind it. You better get moving. Really.
Depending upon where you are, there may yet be a slot open for a performance of our Martin Luther King school assembly, and maybe even in the next few days before his birthday. I know we still have one or two slots open in the greater Chicago area. Maybe where you live, too. And as to Black History Month (February), the aforementioned MLK school show is perfect for that as well, but then so is our Frederick Douglas school assembly or The Spirit To Overcome (East Coast only). But the clock is ticking louder and louder.
So, it is time. And I know this is hard, but I will try to help. You can do this! Really! I have faith in you!
Find a telephone. This is 2012, so there are probably sixteen of them within easy reach.
OK, good ... you are doing great!
Now ... and this is a little trickier, I admit ... dial this number - 1-800-433-7459. Is it ringing? When it answers, give them your name, school and town. The agent can do the rest. It’s easy. You can do it. Really.
Hmmm ... you didn’t pick up the phone yet, did you?
Well, it is your kids who will miss out. It is your reputation that will fail to assume the aura of success you were destined to enjoy following an awesome MLK school assembly at your school. And it is all the parents at your school who will be disappointed and saddened (maybe angered even) that you did not do a better job scheduling the assemblies, and who will quietly gossip behind your back about how ... "she just didn’t have what it takes to be our school assembly coordinator”.
I am so sorry!
But wait! There is still time. Just, get up and find that phone. C’mon! You can do it!
Just do it! Do it now! You will be glad you did! I promise.
