Thanksgiving and Black Friday shopping madness are now behind us once again! And that means the crazy rush toward the Christmas and New Year holidays is upon us. Amidst all the excitement of the next three to four weeks, please do not forget one very important item. Don’t forget to plan your school assemblies and shows for the Winter and Spring!
Wait ... what?
Every January, here at Mobile Ed, we are inundated with calls and inquiries from schools who suddenly realize they have gotten through the Fall but have nothing planned for the rest of the year. It is a madhouse! And many school representatives are left horribly disappointed when they discover that the date or program they wanted is already filled, often by some industrious person who called us back in .... December!
So, be smart and call us today. You will find we have lots of ideas for school assemblies to meet your needs.
From January through June there are a multitude of reasons to use a school assembly to augment your curriculum or your recognition of some timely event.
Starting in January, Martin Luther King’s birthday is a perfect time for a visit from a Martin Luther King School Assembly to bring alive the life of Dr. King. And don’t forget that January is also the birth month for charming old Ben Franklin, and a perfect time for a visit from him, as well!
February is, of course, not only Black History Month, when a show about Frederick Douglass, the Free Black Leader during the Civil War, is totally in order, but February is also Presidents Month when we celebrate the birthdays of George Washington and Abraham Lincoln. With all the excitement over the recently released movie about Lincoln, this is a very good year to have the president himself spend time with your eager students.
March is the month when many schools celebrate Right To Read week. What better than a reading assembly such as Books Made the Man:Lincoln and Reading, or Reading! More Than Words? Or perhaps something on writing like our renowned Young Authors Day (so much more fun and also so much less expensive than a visit from an author!). On a different tack, March is also Women’s History Month. Mark the occasion with a show about famous women in history!
Everyone know what April is about. April is Earth Month! Several great shows are available to aid your recognition, from the giant and spectacular Earth Dome (aka The Earth Balloon) to such live animal programs as Animals and the Environment and Reptiles are Cool, to more earth specific shows like Our Changing Climate.
Of course, science assemblies that support the curriculum are always appropriate, but especially useful in preparation for state wide testing in the Spring. Sky Dome, our mobile planetarium is always in demand, but especially in Illinois where astronomy components so well detailed in Sky Dome, are a direct component of the curriculum in elementary schools.
But, finally, testing is done, but the school year is not yet over. What to do with the kids in May and June? They are already focusing on summer, and it can be hard to hold their attention. Bring in a school assembly. School shows are intrinsically fun! Right before a holiday break is one of the very best times to schedule an assembly. Even when they won’t pay attention in class, they will pay attention to a school assembly program, and have fun, and we just might trick them into learning something in spite of themselves!
And how can that be bad? :-)
