Mobile Ed has been producing school assemblies for 31 years. In that time we have done school assemblies in schools all over the country. But we have also performed in many other settings. Libraries, Senior Citizen facilities, and Cub Scout events are common for us. We have also had performers doing school assemblies in museums and sometimes at private corporate events. And we have even been to jail!
Education Through Entertainment
School assemblies today? Forget it! The weatherman promised an inch of snow last night for South East Michigan schools, but he was wrong. Michigan schools in the lower peninsula awoke this morning to as much as a foot of snow. A foot of snow! It was over the bumper of my car! Now, being that today is Presidents Day, many schools are closed anyway, but some were scheduled to be open. Not anymore! Ohio schools, Michigan schools, Indiana schools ... schools from Texas to Pennsylvania are all closed today!
We wrote recently about Dave Mitchell and his school assembly swing through Texas with his Ben Franklin school show. What we failed to mention is that Dave also carries a really great school assembly about Math called Imathimation. From what we can tell our Texas schools loved this assembly program!
April Showers Bring May School Assemblies, or something like that... more like January snow brings a longer school year. This winter has been tough and a lot of school districts are facing the prospect of a longer school year in order to make up the lost time. Sadly, in many cases, with the extra days thrown in at the end of the year it does not help schools prepare for testing which occurs in most states in the Spring. By May and June testing is usually done. School are looking for things to do. And with a longer school year, in some areas stretching into nearly the end of June, there is a lot of time to fill.
Talking recently about some great school assembly performers we may have mentioned a favorite of ours named David Killion. Dave is from Higgins Lake, Michigan, up in the Northern part of the lower peninsula of Michigan. So when he goes on tour, he has gone a long way before he even leaves the state!
Just a reminder! It is the middle of February and the last thing you want to think about is school assemblies for next year, but.... just like taxes, you have to do it!
As a parent myself I can tell you that issues of character are vitally important in developing the citizens of tomorrow. Ever try raising a teenage boy? Enough said.
Our Ben Franklin school assembly recently completed a really successful tour through the great state of Texas. I thought I would share a few comments from some of the schools we visited.
I had to throw in a word today about Thomas Edison, his birthday and the relevance of school assemblies.
Following in our recent line of “shout outs” to great school assembly performers, a little recognition for a long time favorite of ours, Ms. Kathleen Day, our auburn haired heroin from Springfield, Ohio!
