The essential skill of reading is at the center of education, communication, and mental development. Without a strong ability to read, it may be harder for children to communicate with others and think critically (Harappa Diaries). Reading and comprehension are vital skills for students no matter their age.

Our Story

A school teacher and administrator in the Livonia Public Schools, Larry Thompson knew there was a need to make his school lessons more enjoyable for his students and saw a lack of assemblies available for schools. Thompson, as seen in this photo, was also a televised magician and sidekick to Bozo the Clown known as Mr. Whoodini. After airing the show each morning, he’d run over to his classroom to start teaching (sometimes still in his costume!). His students thought this was so cool! Larry Thompson founded Mobile Ed Productions, Inc. with his father-in-law, Norman Seay, in Redford, Michigan, back in 1979 to bring a little magic to his classroom.

We are proud to announce that today marks the 40th anniversary of Mobile Ed Productions!

It was 40 years ago today that our founders, Larry Thompson and Norman Seay, had the idea to bring the field trip to you.  It all started with one show, The Amazing World of Light, and from there grew to our present library of over 40 educational assembly programs, including:

• Animals and the Environment, a natural science program showcasing incredible animals
• BOT! The Secret World of Robots, a STEM/STEAM program offering live, hands-on demonstrations of real robots currently in everyday use
• Christmahanukwanzamadan, a multi-cultural celebration of different holidays
• The Earth Dome, an interactive journey around our planet
• The Living Lincoln, a stunningly realistic-looking Abraham Lincoln impersonator teaching about his life
• SkyDome Planetarium, a 45-minute journey through our solar system and galaxy and also our most loved program
• STEAM Museum, hands-on exhibits suitable for students of all ages
• Young Authors Day, in which students are encouraged to write stories that are later performed by our professionally-trained mime

One of the most popular Ben Franklin impersonators in the country, Brian Mulligan, will be touring with Mobile Ed Productions this year performing his original one-man show "Ben Franklin: America's Inventor".  Brian Mulligan has made a name for himself not only as the Ben Franklin impersonator seen on Comedy Central's Workaholics, the documentary America: Facts VS Fiction, and The Jay Leno Show, he also has extensive experience performing for children.
