The Mobile Ed Time Machine has been in the works for some time now. Our Mobile Ed Productions, Inc. “Scientists” have finally perfected our time machine, and we want to bring it to your classroom! Many of our programs use the Mobile Ed Time Machine to teach students about important times in history, but our Martin Luther King, Jr. program is one of our educators’ favorites. In our Martin Luther King Jr. program, students are invited to travel back in time with Dr. King himself to experience a first-hand account of what it meant to lead the Civil Rights movement in the twentieth century.

Social studies are a fundamental part of the American educational curriculum. Learning about history has several important benefits for students, including providing new knowledge and literacy skills. Stephanie Ndiaye, the Director of Instruction and Assessment at Athlos Academies, claims social studies is “not simply a discussion of history and literature, it seeks to integrate knowledge about the past into the context of society today.” Our Mobile Ed Productions team recognizes that the importance of learning history spreads further than just knowledge; learning our history affects our future, our identities, and our character.

Here are five incredible benefits of learning history according to Nordia Anglia Education

  1. Develops a better understanding of our world and why our society works the way it does.
  2. Builds our character through learning life lessons.
  3. Creates an understanding of our identities based on our community.
  4. Establishes a clearer future by learning from past mistakes.
  5. Forms literacy and critical thinking skills.

One of the oldest and best ways to teach history is through sharing stories. Practical ways of sharing stories could include watching historical films, reading picture books, reading textbooks, and performing skits. More so than facts and numbers, students are able to remember powerful stories where they understand the impact of those stories. In our Martin Luther King Jr. program, students will hear Dr. King tell powerful stories of his life while also participating in audience interaction, questions, skits, and songs.

Our Martin Luther King Jr. program will educate your students about:

  • The life of Dr. King
  • Growing up in the 1950s
  • Morals and values
  • The Civil Rights Movement
  • Social injustice
  • Inequality

In addition to Dr. King’s life, this program will present several important historical events that explain social injustice, inequality, the Civil rights movement, and Dr. King’s beliefs about nonviolence. By the end of this program, students will leave feeling inspired by Dr. King’s story and empowered to make a difference in their own communities.

Our Martin Luther King Jr. program is a school favorite all across the country! Students, teachers, and parents alike will be captivated by the power of the performance and will no doubt learn something new during this program. Here’s what Flower Mound Elementary School had to say about our this program:

"Our Martin Luther King performer was well-prepared, and the kids loved the singing and the character voices he used… He explained hard concepts like racism and prejudice well to little kids."
