Enjoy a visit from America's most famous author

This multimedia presentation will excite and intrigue your students and teachers on many levels. A professional actor, dressed in authentic and spiffy 19th Century attire will utilize voice, physicality, big-screen images, sound effects, large props, student participation, audienceinteraction, and even brief splashes of background folk music, to stir the hearts and stimulate the minds of all ages.

Samuel Clemens, known by his pen name Mark Twain, is one of the most quoted people in history. English teachers know Twain's classic stories as icons of American literature, timeless illustrations of summer life and childhood wonder. History teachers know the events of Clemens' childhood and early manhood are a microcosm of pre-Civil War life on the Mississippi River. This program weaves all these themes together into a palpable and unforgettable school assembly.

All versions of the program feature a fun and thought-provoking segment designed to encourage students to exercise their imagination and take initiative. Student volunteers build a miniature Tom Sawyer fence with amazing ease and rapidity. This paves the way for a streamlined and active telling of the famous fence whitewashing passage from The Adventures of Tom Sawyer. Students learn, and adults are reminded, that work can truly seem like play. It's all up to the doer.

Also, all age-groups are treated to a rousing and truly hands-on demonstration of sounding the Mississippi River, featuring three student volunteers and a very long, thick rope.

Older grades will hear the story that started Twain's career as a writer, THE CELEBRATED JUMPING FROG OF CALAVERAS COUNTY. The strange folk tale is told featuring a croaking animatronic frog that never fails to make the audience jump!

Younger grades will hear the great author tell his delightful, but seldom-heard, animal fable, helped by a student volunteer and several hilarious stick masks.

Upper elementary and middle school students will be stunned into good-natured laughter as one of their own hops into a ready-to-wear HuckleberryFinn jump suit. While hearing about the carefree and independent life of Huck Finn, students will be challenged to use their critical thinking while contemplating the practical balance between rules, schedules and freedom in a civilized society. This is a memorable exchange that provides plenty of fuel for classroom discussion.

Mr. Clemens always makes sure to throw in a few tales of his days as a steamboat pilot, his escapades as a world traveler and his married life, living in Hartford, Connecticut with his wife, Olivia, and their three daughters.

Mark Twain's humorous and timeless stories engage and delight, while Samuel Clemens adds spice with bold and moving autobiographical descriptions of his own vibrant and flamboyant life.
